Team Fortress 2 Patch Day

So it looks like this morning was patch day for TF2. This is the update where Valve adds a new game play mode called “Payload”. This mode is playable on the new map “Gold Rush”. They have also added some new incentives to play the medic class, they have added 3 new weapons and 36 new achievements. You can follow the link here to check out the update page with details on all of the new achievements.

So I was digging through the closet today and found all my old Guild Wars disks. (I have the first 3 campaigns: Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfalls). I went ahead an installed them all again. I wasn’t too surprised that I could max out all of the games settings and still have over 60fps constantly. One thing that I was noticing though was a higher latency than I do with almost any other online game, not exactly sure why this is but I was kind of put off by it. The game sure hasn’t changed too much in the past few years, well I guess there wasn’t much to change the game was pretty good back then. More after the break.

Can Your PC Run It?

I’ve stumbled upon a website that I think you all should check out. It’s called “Can You Run It“. On there you have to allow it to install an ActiveX application, once thats done the website will let you know how your computer will handle the specified game. Of course this isn’t super accurate, but it can give you a basic idea if your computer can handle that game that you’ve been checking out.

Dawn of War 2

Okay so I just found out that Relic is hard at work on a new Dawn of War game. So far the teaser trailer and some of the teaser screen shots have blown me away. You can check them out here. Just a warning though, parental discretion is advised. You can also check out the high res screen shots after the break.

Unreal Tournament 3

Okay so I’ve been playing the holy hell out of the newest Unreal Tournament game, Unreal Tournament 3. It’s pretty darn good, great graphics, fast action, head shots galore, along some new game modes. I’ll first start out by examining each of the game modes and give you what I think are the pros and cons of the game.

PC Gaming, Dying, WHAT??

Okay so I just ran across this article while I sit bored out of my mind at work, and just had to roll my eyes at it. I don’t know about any of you but I am starting to get kind of tired of hearing about the whole “PC Gaming is dead, consoles are the future” crap. Sure the retail sales of PC games are starting to slump but do people ever think about what Steam, Direct2Drive or any of the other pay here download here sites have to offer. I for one just picked up Bio-Shock the other day from Steam for $25. No Tax, no shipping just had to wait about 45 min for it to download and play. Sure the console retail sales are up, since thats about the only away that you can get the games. What do they expect. A lot of the people that comment on many sites blame this on Vista and DX10. I don’t know but the last time that I checked windows XP hasn’t ceased to exist. Oh and don’t forget about the behemoth that is World of Warcraft. How much revenue does that game bring in monthly. How about the Orange Box, hell the entire valve lineup. If PC gaming is dying than why do we hear about all of these new games coming out, Age of Conan, Starcraft 2, Warhammer Online, World of Warcraft: Rise of the Lich King. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens over the next couple of years, we all might be able to only use or PC’s for Word Processing and the Internet. Of course, an internet with no games what so ever according to these people. Argh this kind of crap drives me crazy.

Vista Service Pack 1

Whew, well it finally happened, I hopped on the computer this morning to check the never ending work emails and discovered that the Windows Update icon was up. I thought “could it be service pack 1?”. Double clicked the icon and BOOM! There it was SP1 in all its glory was ready to start downloading. At first I had some doubts after reading about some peoples horror stories with the SP1 RC that dropped about a month ago, but I though “eh, Microsoft should have all the kinks worked out”. Looks like they did after about a 20 min download and install period Vista popped back up and ran better than ever. No system hangs, no copy file hangs, nothing. All of the problems that I was having are now non-existent. All thats fine and dandy but I still needed to try out some of the games and see if there was any performance increases or decreases. More after the break.
